Infinity Scarves for Mothers

Well how cool is it that I have now made a scarf for each of the mothers in my family?! And here they are, in no particular order: My sister Tracey, who goes by Junior when commenting here.

My MIL, Keiko, who was dismayed that her shirt didn't match, but you gotta do what you gotta do for the blog.

My SIL Elizabeth, who took a humorous picture depicting what the scarf could be used for when one finds oneself at the end of one's rope, so to speak. (I believe this would be called an Eternity Scarf.)

This is a very fancy-schmancy way to wear it - I have no idea how she did that! Bravo, Liba!

And finally, MY mother!

And here's my Mother's Day haul. Lucas shopped at the school store (on my dime) and bought this beautiful red fleece blanket and a stunning ring made of beads and sequins, along with a candle holder not pictured. Drew bought me (on his own dime, unless Dean cheated) the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy - exactly what I was wanting! And on the ride home from Pensacola, Drew "DJ'd" with music from my iPod, and he even played some Florence for me even though they don't care for it (it broke up the Dubstep and Dragon Force, which is all a mother could ask for). That is what I call a good Mother's Day.

Except that now I have to go to Walmart and buy the food for our Cub Scout Pack cookout tomorrow, for which I have 72 RSVP's so far....and it was such an awesome day.

But wait, look what I did when I got back from the hated Walmart! My MIL kindly gave me some panko-breaded pork cutlets (tonkatsu, to those in the know) to fix for dinner tonight. Wait, ME cook tonkatsu? Yes, indeedy! (If you're wondering why that's odd, I'll tell you of the Thanksgiving where the tip of my pinky ended up in the sweet potatoes.) Dean was on call, so I bravely heated the oil, with support from Drew, who declared that the final product did indeed look like what Dean and my MIL cook. Look at the perfect bubbles from the correctly-heated oil - I'm almost more proud of this than anything I've sewn!!

And my cooking inspired Lucas to create a special dessert for me. He poked peanuts into the brownies my mom made yesterday, then stacked and drizzled and arranged to achieve this:

What a Mother's Day!

Gorgeous girls in your family! The scarves look great. Especially loved the eternity scarf hehe. The food looks yummy, you should be proud of yourself! Glad there were no fingers included in the dish. Much love from your anonymous lurker (Rachelle) 5826 nautical miles (approx) away. (I am totally going to make my own scarf after seeing all yours, they are gorgeous)

Thanks, Rachelle - I love it when people de-lurk!

It has also come to my attention that there is a book called Fifty Shades of Gray (or Twenty, or some number) which may have been the inspiration for Elizabeth's picture, but I haven't read it yet, so I certainly can't endorse it in any way...yet.

Just loaded the car. I should be there in time for a drink before a repeat of the posted dinner.

Seventy How Many RSVPs? Much respect (Ali G reference).

I agree--very pretty gals in your family! nice scarves, too! Amy

Lovely scarves and they always make awesome gifts. Saturday at our Mother's day celebration my sister was sporting the one I made her for xmas.

Now I am hungry looking at those delicious dishes.

I figured it must be nice to know there are other normal, middle aged mothers reading rather than what the imagination conjures up ;) I googled your Fifty Shades of Gray - :O lol the author needs to include some of your great dance moves in the next book rather than hanging. A much better destressor.

Amy - I'll mix you a drink - how 'bout 2 fingers of Scotch? Bahahaha - I crack myself up (if I even said that right). And you'll have to explain the Ali G reference - I thought of Ally McBeal, but I'm not getting anything with Ali G...

Sheila - I have yet to see someone actually wear something I made them after the fact, other than my kids, so kudos to you!

Rachelle - I've heard rumors about the book but haven't looked it up yet - hmmm. And Lordy, if you've seen my dance moves, I hope your eyes have stopped bleeding.

I know that this seems totally stalkerish commenting again...I can assure you I'm mostly normal. Your dance moves inspired me to give it a go myself. I tend towards the rather serious side. It was fun and we had a good laugh. Not at you :) it IS a good destressor. An interesting weird fact for your boys 'cos I know my boys would love this. You are technically talking to me in the future. It is 10.42 am, May 15th here :)

Oooh, I KNEW I was ahead of my time! (Yeah, that was bad.) I totally stalked YOU, because I looked at my map of visitors, and are you in New Zealand? We flew to Japan one time, and gaining and losing a day was very hard on the system.

Haha, YES! You should come here one day, well woth the trip even with the time changes. It's a beautiful little country. Right I'm off to steal the first Hunger Games book off my son. Hopefully a few more of your readers will de-lurk. What fun!

Hey Sister! Just sent a message to your Facebook inbox w/ a link that explains Ali G. Wasn't confident I could post it successfully here without it getting clunky.

Two fingers?!? That's the Brownie scout sign! Let's go Girl Scout!!!

Funny - I get it now!

I so totally endorse the "Fifty Shades of Grey" book. My ENTIRE group at work is reading it. One girl took it on her honeymoon! Scott calls it Mommy porn. Nothing of the sort to inspire that picture but some stuff that made me og 'do people really do that?'

Now can you bring this to the lake for me to read?
