Hmm, that's about all I can say for it...it IS, in fact, a shirt. I think I've wandered outside my style. This is Vogue 8323, which was made up fabulously by KID MD, but which somehow turned out almost grandmotherly on moi. Watch out for those double-wide hips!
Maybe it's the fabric-pattern combo. This is a cotton knit I loved from Amanda at Kitschy Coo, but I'm afraid I've combined it with the wrong pattern. (You can't imagine the guilt I'm suffering that I squandered a FOREIGN fabric on the wrong style.) Can you even see the princess seams on front and back?
Back to the pattern - it was so easy and fast, but this plethora of fabric at the neck is universal among the 47 sewists who reviewed it. KID succeeded in fixing the problem as mentioned on her blog, but I left out that step, unfortunately.
One sewist wore it with a belt, which looked quite smart and professional, but that is just not my style. (Sorry for the flash.)
Of course, it looks baggy without the belt. Maybe I should tighten up the side seams.
Now should I try it with a solid to accent the style? Or I may try another view with a regular collar and not this criss-cross wrap style, which I've folded down in most of the pictures. I'm also not used to this length, but I think it's in right now, and I wouldn't go shorter unless I tuck it in.
Well, I'm still wearing scrubs every day to work since sewing my own wardrobe is not going well. I can't wait for cold weather to get here so I can break out the 4 pairs of corduroys I bought last year and wore with my boots every day!

We sewists are most critical of ourselves. So! Sew! I think this top looks great on you, and the colors are good on you! I dare ya to wear it in public!
Oh, I wrote this long brilliant comment, typed out on my teeny iPhone keyboard, and blogger/Safari ate it. Argh!!
And I totally agree with Mary. I think the top looks wonderful on you, particularly in back. The fit back there is impeccable. I have noticed with one of these that i made, the double layer of fabric makes mt tummy feel poofy. It looks fine in pictures and the mirror, but it makes me self conscious without a belt. All that said, if you aren't comfortable in it, you won't wear it, and it would be a shame not to wear that fun fabric! If you're wanting to take it in a little, I'd focus on the front princess seams. You could just baste them a little snugger and see if you like it better.
I think it looks great on you and the print is fun.
I like this top - esp. with the belt. But I certainly understand the doubts you are having. I sew stuff all the time that I think - this is it! Then I try it on and reality sits in. Sometimes it's the fit, sometimes it's the fabric.
Sewing can be so hard! ;)
I love it. Seriously hipster you look great! No really. I do think you should wear it with a pair of jeans and the shoes you bought in New York. What a great movie outfit too. But I do understand it's blazing hot there so then I would recommend a pair of bermudas? But it would be so great with a pair of jeans. I don't think it's grandmotherly at all - you need to get those jeans rocking. Either bootcut or perhaps those wide leg dark wash kind for a dressier look. In the winter you could accessorize with a scarf.
I think your top looks absolutely fine. The print has a definite 70s vibe to it.
I think it's mod and the belt looks great with it!
I have found some of the contemporary prints to be a bit more challenging too. Sometimes what I have envisioned and what turns out aren't entirely in sync.
But you are a doctor right? Don't you wear a lab coat over your shirt? If you are having problems with the print full on, why not sneak it into work and try it on with a white lab coat? That might change your perception of it.
I think it looks great and fits very well! I especially like it with the belt.
Well you people are very supportive, as usual, and Mary has thrown down the gauntlet! I WILL wear this thing and see what kind of comments I get. Sewista, I don't wear a white coat most of the time because it tends to make toddlers cry, but that was a great suggestion - I may wear it to the hospital first! It will also be great at the movies where I'm always cold - thanks Pammie! And Gwen and Junior have nailed it - it's very 70's for sure (who remembers the Mod Squad?). Definitely with a belt...
The blouse looks great on you and fits nicely.
