That Mardi Gras Itch

Yeah, I said I was going to wear one of my old Mardi Gras dresses again this year, but don't you know as we get closer to it, I start feeling like I want a new one. And this would probably be my fabric of choice - gasp!
Of course, Dean no likey, and I'm sure it would turn out like the first silvery one I made where I thought it was awesome, then later I hated it. (It's currently wadded up in a drawer - I don't have any way to hang it on a hanger.) These are some other possibilities that I photographed at Hancock, but I think they'd probably look awful in real life.
And this is just a lovely pink crushed satin...nothing wrong with that.
This was a wacky rosette thing from Joann's - why are there only orange and black during Mardi Gras season? It just looks fun - I wouldn't make a whole dress out of it...but what about a bodice?
See, I was thinking this pattern (McCalls 6283) could work with the long skirt, but see that short pink dress with the rosettes as the bodice? But you'd have to find another fabric to go with it for the bottom...though they have lots of orange-ish fabrics in that "bff" section, whatever that is.
The thing that scared me most about this pattern is that it calls for boning - never worked with that before! But I bet it's the strapless option that has boning, wouldn't you think? Why would you need boning if you have straps? Hmm, lots to think about, and only 4 weeks till Endymion. Of course, I can always wear the same one I wore last year (the black velvety one that made me look skinny), but that one's preserved forever on Facebook and it'll be obvious that I'm cheap...

I like the original fabric (first picture) you picked out - I do like the rosettes (and we have that and it always intrigues me)...but I have to vote with the first picture - Sorry!! And, I like the pattern very much - great choice. . .

P.S. That black dress last year was fab!

Please - do NOT buy the rosette fabric. It's evident that you don't have little girls around or else you would know that the rosette fabric is THE fabric for Sunday Best dresses in the 2 - 8 year old group.

Personally, I agree with everyone else - the first fabric is fabulous.

Right - no girls - thanks for the heads-up! That would be embarrassing to show up in something little children are wearing...
